Now playing- Born This Way by Lady Gaga
A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital H-I-M
I wouldn’t be what you call a “little monster”, and I don’t refer to Lady Gaga as my “Mama Monster” or freak out over Monster Balls, but I guess you can say I am a fan of Lady Gaga and her songs, just not to the extent of, well…feeling as pumped whenever I listen to Paramore, if that makes any sense.
However, that didn’t mean I wasn’t particularly excited when Gaga tweeted that her brand new single Born This Way will be released on Friday, which is today (Ahhh). So I gave it a listen, and many others all over the world gave it a listen, and thus this results in arguments and disagreements over what Born This Way’s lyrics really imply on Tumblr. It can be said this section of the lyrics led to the controversies:
Don’t be a drag, just be a queen
Whether you’re broke or evergreen
You’re black, white, beige, chola descent
You’re lebanese, you’re orient
Whether life’s disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied, or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
‘Cause baby you were born this way
No matter gay, straight, or bi,
Lesbian, transgendered life
I’m on the right track baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made
I’m on the right track baby
I was born to be brave
Many are accusing her of racism, cissexism, leading to a whole bunch of transgender disagreements. They are also accusing her of pandering and making money off the LGBT community and that this song is basically just a rip-off of Madonna’s/P!nk’s songs and a whole other things they managed to come up with in a 3-minute-song. Which is also basically just a bunch of dumb reasons to show that the dislike Gaga just because they do instead of the reasons they are spewing out to criticise her new single, which, in my opinion, is great and not just great but “IN YOUR FACE TRUTHFUL” great because out society is biased and narrow-minded in so many ways people need a warning bell to see through their biased judgments and prejudice. If Lady Gaga is making money off the LGBT community then why did she donate money from her Monster Ball Tour to LGBT homeless youths? And why did she repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” concept? Or how about just plain having the guts to release a song that actually mentions the LGBT community, and not in a negative light at all? Listen to the song, and please tell me which part in the song did she express racism or cissexism, because I cannot find it at all and I’m pretty sure neither can a skilled Hufflepuff. And about Born This Way being a rip-off of Madonna’s Express Yourself and P!nk’s Raise Your Glasses, that is obviously a weak excuse to try and diss Lady Gaga. If you listen closely to every other song other than Gaga’s, there are similarities to other songs as well. And I quote someone from Tumblr, there’s so such thing as a truly original song. No matter what you think of, someone has already done it.
Basically, it’s just a song, so sit down and enjoy it. And if you don’t then don’t listen to it and if you hate it, by all means you have every right justified to hate it but don’t give unreasonable reasons why Born This Way is a horrible and immoral song, because Lady Gaga might not be the best role model in the music industry, but she is a role model nontheless to many others who have been inspired by her actions and songs.
Lady Gaga, never stop being you.
